Lucy & Patrick’s Fabulous Festival Wedding at Dummer Down Farm

LUCY + PATRICK

Lucy loves that Patrick is passionate, confident, and driven, but what she cherishes most is his ability to be silly and embrace his nerdy side with her. He’s her safe place and constantly inspires her to be the best version of herself. Patrick is captivated by Lucy’s intelligence, beauty, and compassionate nature, as well as her playful and fun-loving spirit. They share a love for adventure—riding motorbikes, surfing, diving, and exploring new places—while also enjoying quiet moments at home, growing their aquarium and playing tabletop games. Life for them is about celebrating, dancing, and making the most of every moment.

Their story began during COVID-19 when they worked for the military—Patrick as a regular and Lucy as a reserve officer. After meeting over a Zoom social organised by Patrick, they got to know each other through texts. They dated online for months until Christmas brought Lucy back to Newbury, where they had their first date at Silchester Roman Ruins, followed by a virtual cocktail-making night.

Patrick’s proposal to Lucy was a mix of chaos and charm during a trip to Morocco for her 31st birthday and Valentine’s Day. He had planned to pop the question in the Atlas Mountains but spent the whole day struggling to find the right spot—leaving him grumpy and Lucy confused. That evening, he salvaged the plan with a private dinner at their Riad, rose petals, and a personal chef. When Patrick finally dropped to one knee, Lucy was so excited she interrupted his speech entirely. They ended the night with celebratory rooftop drinks—Patrick relieved, and Lucy grinning ear to ear.

For their ceremony, they chose St Mary’s in Old Basing (my home village!!!) without hesitation. Patrick had spent his choir boy days there, and the church’s history struck a chord with his inner history buff. The sentimental value made it the perfect spot to kick off married life—plus, it was hard to beat a church that ticked both the “romantic” and “nostalgic” boxes.

When it came to their reception, they ditched formal for festival vibes at Dummer Down Farm. The place had everything they wanted: outdoor space, a laid-back feel, and even an on-site brewery—because what’s a wedding without convenient pints? Their vision was all about being ‘colourful and comfortable,’ capturing the fun of summer with plenty of music, dancing, and zero stuffiness.

As for why they chose me to photograph it all? Simple—I guess they loved the photos I took at Patrick’s sister Hannah’s wedding a few years back! They wanted their photos to emphasise a new beginning to their lives, the fun they have with each other and with their friends, and the essence of summer. Most importantly, they wanted their photos to show the love and fun of the day naturally, without being too formal or staged—capturing real moments just the way they envisioned.
