It’s always such a compliment (probably the biggest there is actually!) when my couples go out of their way to recommend me to their friends. My lovely journey with Ashleigh & Dan started in exactly that way, as follows “Hi Alistair, I hope you are well. You were the wedding photographer for friends of ours back in August 2020. We absolutely loved seeing their photographs and beautiful wedding album and would be really interested in getting a quote from you for our wedding..”

Right from my initial chat with Ashleigh I knew their Stoke Place summer wedding was going to have such a great vibe and be full of awesome moments. But it wasn’t until I met them both at their venue that I also knew just how gorgeous it was all going to be.

Below is their highlights slideshow and some of my favourite images from their day. But first, a little bit about them:

Q How did you meet?

A Dan and I met on a night out in Windsor at the Scotch bar under the arches. We had both been going on nights out there with our friends for years but our paths hadn’t crossed before!

On the night we met, I was only supposed to be going out for dinner with a couple of friends and didn’t intend on being out late. We inevitably ended up drinking too many cocktails and ended up staying out later than planned. My friend was dancing with one of Dan’s friends who was very drunk and very entertaining. Dan asked if I would like a drink and we ended up with some tequila rose shots and a hazey head the next morning!

Q When and where did you get engaged? Who proposed? Any particular stories?

A We got engaged in the rose garden at Cliveden national trust gardens on 12th September 2020. We had been on a walk there when I was pregnant with Ella and were browsing the different names of the roses. We had the name Ella Rose chosen for a girl and she was a surprise several weeks later, although everyone was convinced she was a girl all along.

When Ella was around 8 weeks old we took her to Cliveden for a walk on a sunny day and Dan proposed in the rose garden. He had previously been to Hatton Garden with my mum to choose an engagement ring and asked my dad for his permission. We went straight round to see them after for a glass of champagne!

Q Are there any specific reasons you chose your wedding venues? Personal/family connections? The style? The vibe? The location?

A Dan and I were both in agreement that we wanted a venue that wasn’t too big or overwhelming. We wanted a venue where we could get married and have the reception all in the same place and that wasn’t too far for everyone to travel. We had been to Stoke Place before for several events including fireworks night and afternoon tea.

The venue felt like it ticked all the boxes for what we wanted and had a nice set up for the evening reception with a dance floor and bar together in one room. The Queen Anne country house and grounds are also really lovely. We are having 80 guests in the day and a further 30/40 ish in the evening.
